 Sri
Lanka is relatively unknown in the field of Golf, but
surprisingly the country has four of the finest 18 hole
courses in Asia. In fact the association with golf is
more than a century and the Sri Lanka Amateur Golf
Championship, which was instituted in the year 1891
follows the British Amateur as the oldest national
championship in the world. The four courses are situated
in Colombo, Digana and Nuwara Eliya, Colombo at sea
level, Digana at 600 m and Nuwara Eliya at an elevation
of 2'070 m have distinctly different terrain and climate
conditions. This contributes to the enjoyment and
challenge as you could be playing golf in three
different countries.

For Beginners
1 week (7 nights) stay at the Hotel Trans Asia,
Colombo, in double or single room inclusive of buffet
breakfast and 6 golf lessons with the professional and 6
day practicing at the driving range of the Royal Colombo
Golf Club. Included are 8 transfers from the hotel to
the golf course and back again, 6 golf lessons and 6
times unlimited practicing (from 07.00 till 18.00 h.
except Mondays), as well as one trial round of golf on a
working day accompanied by an experienced golfer
inclusive of green fee, caddie fee on the golf course of
the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
For Advanced Golfers

(former Renaissance Hotel) in double or single room,
inclusive of buffet breakfast and 5 lessons of golf with
a professional and 5 days golf on the golf course of the

Courses

Royal Colombo Golf Club
This course is 5'770 m long (par 71). A flat course
with broad fairways which looks simple to beginners but
there are many water hazards and well guarded bunkers
which quickly change the opinion. The Royal Colombo Golf
Club is easily accessible, in 20 minutes drive from all
first-class hotels in the city.
Water Edge Golf Club
This is the newest golf course in Sri Lanka, situated
10 km from the centre of Colombo in Bataramulla. It is a
18 hole par 72 layout, measuring 5’850 m, with 5 par
3’s, 5 par 5’s and 8 par 4’s . It is a challenging test.
- One needs to be very accurate, as water hazards are in
play on all 18 holes. With the absence of trees the flat
course is quite windy and plays links style, with very
lush fairways , which makes the ball sit up extremely
well.
Victoria Golf Club, Digana
This course is 6'190 m long (par 73) a championship
golf course designed by Donald Steel and inaugurated
early in 1999. The fairways are rather narrow in a hilly
country side. Stately trees and avenues of coconuts lend
the course an immediate air maturity. Impressive natural
outcrops of rocks are a distinctive feature and indeed a
hazard of the course. The Victoria Golf Club is situated
25 km east of Kandy and 150 km from Colombo.
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club
This course which is reputed to be one of Asia's
finest is 5'520 m (par 71). The fairways are long and
narrow and bordered by fir trees and thick bushes. It
demands skilful "position play" and the hilly terrain
makes it essential that players can cope with up-hill
and down-hill lies. The Golf Club is 10 minutes walk
from the Grand Hotel and 190 km from Colombo.
